Alice Knight - co-director, arranger, conductor
Cherry Ge - co-director, writer, pianist
Muriel Herbert (1897-1984) was one of the most promising composers of her generation. By her forties, she had stopped - not because her talent ran out, but because marriage and motherhood had taken precedence, leaving no room for her artistic voice.
The Lost Nightingale is an hour-long show that tells the story of Herbert's life, and asks the question: where might her music have gone, had life taken a different turn?
Join Ensemble Iris, an orchestral collective of talented young professional musicians, for an evening that crosses the boundaries of music and theatre. Original songs combine with new arrangements, bringing Herbert's music to life across the centuries as we explore her life and voice.
The Lost Nightingale is a collaboration between Cherry Ge and Alice Knight that celebrates women's musical work by opening up creative dialogues across history and bringing them to new audiences across theatre and music.
