“En el Claro de Luna” (In the Moonlight) is the final performance of the Acting in Spanish course that began in January. It brings together scenes from works by Ramón María del Valle-Inclán, including La Rosa de Papel, Divinas Palabras, and Ligazón.

Performed entirely in Spanish, this piece invites audiences into a rural spanish landscape at the beginning of the 20th century, where human instincts surface with unsettling clarity.

The performance unfolds as a journey through a society marked by misery, death, lust, greed, and violence, a world in which death is constantly present. Before our eyes, a procession of characters passes by: matchmakers, tricksters, and misers, figures who have had to rely on cunning to survive and whose values have eroded in the process. Through them, the piece reveals a society shaped by necessity, where ethics are distorted and survival demands compromise.

As night falls, we enter an atmosphere where love, desire, witchcraft, greed, and morality coexist. The moonlit clearing becomes a space where everything is possible, both right and wrong.

The piece draws on Valle-Inclán’s esperpento style, in which reality reveals its ugliest face in order to expose deeper truths. Moments of cruelty are laced with dark humour, uncovering the absurd within suffering.

The performance is the result of an intensive interpretative process, highlighting not only the richness of Spanish theatre but also the performers’ ability to inhabit its complexity with precision and commitment. Valle-Inclán is renowned for his dense language and innovative theatrical style, which presents an additional challenge for the performers. En el Claro de Luna stands as a tribute to Valle-Inclán’s legacy and a testament to the ensemble’s creative journey.
