SHE/ HER is a multimedia performance that excavates the individual and collective female experience.

Through music, story and movement, a diverse group of women hold space for the personal

and Universal. The show is dedicated to the brave women in Iran, who sparked the Woman,

Life, Freedom and movement.

SHE/ HER is the brainchild of actor/ director Nicole Ansari. Tired of not seeing her own

experience as a woman reflected in mainstream Film, TV, Theatre and the Media, and most of

all the history of humankind, Nicole asked herself the question: “What if we let women tell their

own stories? In 2020, still under the strain of the Pandemic, Nicole gathered a diverse group of

women of varied backgrounds together and asked questions ( the performers were not all

professional actors) and stories arose.

She gave the show a shape and the group collectively

created the first Iteration of the show at PS21, the Performance Space of the 21st Century, in

upstate NY. The show resonated with audiences on a deep emotional level and so she took the

template of the Show to the Edinburgh fringe in 2022 with a couple of the previous performers

but mostly new ones, and created a “Scottish version.” The show was critically acclaimed but

most importantly, it moved audience members to look at their own relationship to self, their

Mothers, daughters and Women in general. The show will morph into new Iterations with new

stories and music and new performers wherever it will go in the hope of giving voice to 50% of

humanity that has been ignored, pillaged, raped and silenced.

Vision of the director:

I want to see a world where women are being seen, heard and cherished. A world where true

equality and equity reigns. Maybe if we knew more about Women we would treat them better?

Maybe if we would let women lead we wouldn’t find ourselves in endless wars that only create

destruction all around the world? let’s start by listening to their stories.
