One Hundred Percent is a darkly comedic two-hander about a struggling actor who decides they must murder the supposed source of their misery, an examiner who motivated them to take on a career in the arts by once giving them one hundred percent on an acting exam. With Actor’s dreams crushed by the realities of their chosen path, they confront Examiner with their agony, demanding a reassessment of the very monologues they once performed for the feted exam. This leads to an unsettling psychological showdown that spirals into a surreal mock-examination and a confrontation that exposes inner truths. One Hundred Percent is a pressure-cooker play about the need for validation, the meaning of failure, and desperation for success. The two characters battle in the realm between passive-aggression and antagonistic disclosure; through subterfuge, mind-games, and roiling power dynamics as awkward small talk, tea, and biscuits take on new meanings and a claustrophobic studio flat forces reality to the surface. Actor’s desperation for catharsis turns to crisis, and ultimately to a suicide attempt, which is seemingly only stopped by an unexpected job offer. This play will have you on the edge of your seat as you wince, laugh, and cringe at the pain and joy of self-belief and ultimately wonder just whether the turmoil of ‘being an artist’ is really worth it.
